TIE ONE ON!

Tie-front blouses are perfect for the office and transition well to post work fun. Guys aren't the only ones who can wear ties! I love androgyny, but am a very girly girl...take this decidedly male look and flip it with these feminine colors and silky/satiny textures. Check out my picks below.

StyleTip: These shirts look great with high waisted pencil skirts and opaque tights.

Clockwise, outer semi circle: turquoise TopShop frill sleeve blouse £25.00; purple chiffon blouse-and-sweater-vest ensemble, $990.00 at Escada; blue silk Sportmax blouse $550.00, at MaxMara; red stretch charmeuse blouse, $345.00 at Miguelina; white D&G Dolce & Gabbana sheer silk blouse, $285.00 on net-a-porter; polka dotted silk lurex blouse, $308 at Tibi. Inner semi circle: yellow silk chiffon blouse, Walter, $143.00; 201-420-1665 or at Jessie James; pink silk blouse, Walter, $130.00 at Saks; black Forever 21 satin blouse $19.80.

I really like the inexpensive and super cuter tie-front shirts at Speigel -silk charmeuse for $59.00 and Banana Republic -metallic flutter sleeve top in gold and silk lame, $49.00. Click on the label below for vintage Style Trends posts!

MAYBE I WAS ONTO SOMETHING...

Get yours before it's too late! Check out the People magazine article here.

"Blake Lively is proving to be just as much of a fashionista as her on-screen alter-ego, Serena van der Woodsen. Hitting the talk show circuit, the young star impressed the host and audience not just with her charm and poise. . .but with her fancy heels from te casan! Kelly Ripa professed her undying love for the fabulous heels and even got Blake to let her try one on! And she’s not the only one — we were beseiged by readers begging us to track them down. You don’t need to be a Gossip Girl to get your hands on your own pair of Gaetano Perrone “Diana” jeweled pumps, $375, by calling their New York City boutique, 212-584-8000 or check out their website at tecasan.com "-People Magazine

Yum! Gaetano Perrone is allegedly leaving Te Casan to join Dior (can someone please confirm or deny?). These shoes are on sale (in store) at Te Casan, for $189.00. Tell 'em I sent 'ya!

Update: These shoes are no longer on sale! Crazy what a 'lil publicity will do... Update: And like that, they're gone! Sold out.

My new favorite shoe, and Blake Lively's too? Diana jewelled ballerina pumps, designed by Gaetano Perrone for Te Casan.

BIG RED

Because there are 62 shopping days 'till Christmas!
Be naughty and nice! Wrap yourself up in one of these darling numbers. Finally, the perfect way to wear red during Christmas without looking like Mrs. Claus. These dresses are perfect for Valentine's day too; the color, bow and length amp up the flirt factor, but the volume tones it down...
Red silk taffeta dress $275.00 on eDressMe; Christian Lacroix silk strapless mini dress $4,185.00 (yikes!) on net-a-porter; Forever 21's red tube dress is a more reasonable alternative at $22.80 (this looks exactly, ahem, suspiciously like a black H&M dress that I have! But accusing Forever 21 of copying H&M would be like the pot calling the kettle hot)!

My Pick: If a short crimson dress is too daring, check out the trench below* the flouncy ruffles and detachable belt (not pictured) echo the flavor of the dresses above. Hurry up and get yours, the price is unbeatable for a Lacroix!
Christian Lacroix "Falbala" trench for La Redoute (La Redoute, quickly becoming my go-to online shopping destination, was previously mentioned here), $299.99!
*I was too much of a coward to buy the red one, after much deliberation and polling of many of my friends, I opted for the black version. Seriously though, picture me walking up into the firm in a red trench! As much as I might like to, it's not going to happen...

COLOR BLOCK

Life & Style weekly rounds up a few picks inspired by the latest block method. Check out this week's issue to get more info on one of this fall's hottest trends!

Check out additional color block options (and where to buy) below.

Left to Right. Top: Paul Smith logo silk scarf, $105.00 on Paul Smith's website; Coach's legacy stripe enamel bangle, $78.00; Cotton Faille dress, Isaac Mizrahi New York, $285; isaacmizrahiny.com (previously featured here). Middle: Jonathan Saunders Brent block color dress, $1635.00, available on net-a-porter; Miu Miu contrast color brogue pumps, $525.00 on net-a-porter; Loeffler Randall black and white color block dress, $375; loefflerrandall.com or at select Neiman Marcus stores; Silk twill scarf, Emilio Pucci, $120; orange and pink suede flats, Nine West, $35 (net proceeds will benefit a variety of breast-cancer charities). Bottom: TopShop sequin clutch bag £18.00; WD. NY's silk crepe de chine dress $168.00; Sam Edelman's leather flat with metal trim, $95.00 on samedelmanshoe.com or at Macy's West; Alice & Trixie cotton dress, available for $276 on bellabtq.com

Spice up these season's greys and blacks with an infusion of color! It will be hard to succumb to the winter blues in one of these bright numbers. My favorite interpretations of the trend are below. Electric blue is a major "it" color for fall!

TopShop's triangle panel elastic belt is only £18.00. My sister-in-law bought Nine West's toggle mary janes, $79.00, in electric blue...I got them in fucshia (the colors are available on Amazon).

GHITA BY ALEXIS PHIFER

I didn't get many invites for Spring 2008 Fashion Week (hopefully such will not be the case for the Fall '08 shows!), but I was pleasantly surprised that I was invited to experience Alexis Phifer's Fashion Week debut! Her line, Ghita, which means gem of the sea, loosely translated, pearl, was quite a collection.
Alexis is radiant in one of her pieces...

The collection was less of a freshman foray into fashion and more like the commencement exercises of a seasoned grad. No stranger to the fashion game, Alexis, also known as Kanye's better half, honed her craft at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles (FIDM for those in the know ;)), receiving a degree in Fashion Design...and Kanye credit's her as the stylist who made him fresh!

Check out my personal pics of the show and pre-show (the quality of the pics aren't the best, but when Style Chile blows up, I'll be sure to hire a photographer). As you can no doubt imagine, the soundtrack was extraodinary. A lot of Prince and a 'lil bit of Kanye thrown in for good measure.

Kanye with the papparazzi--this was days after the MTV awards-- so he was busy explaining his position.

Speaking of personal pics, this experience highlighted an interesting dilema. As a fledgling fashion journalist (heh heh), I am constantly on the quest to bring my readers a good story, and as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words...thus, whenever feasible, I try to get a pic to capture the moment...but it's so hard to walk up to strangers and ask them to let me photograph them! Even harder to ask celebrities! But I swallow my pride, and do it all for you, my wonderful readers. Prime example, Nigel* (of America's Next Top Model fame) sat directly across from me at the show, and he was clearly annoyed that I was snapping pictures of him! Can you tell?

He was not pleased! He would look dead at me, then as I whipped the camera out, he would look away. That smirk has my name written all over it! Or perhaps the right is his best side?

Extra's Tanika Ray glowed! Literally. Who is her trainer, and who makes her bronzer?!

Fashion Week + NYC = Fabulously Clad Beauties! The audience more than lived up to that equation! The Metropolitan Pavillion was a veritable feast for the eyes; I couldn't keep up with the many fantastic outfits, and the wearers all walking around with that "who me, this 'ole thing?" look on their faces...in any event, check out my favorite ensembles below.

Left: hot satin marni's complement THAT prada bag; right: this mustard chloe dress popped against the white chairs...

I was a big fan of the dress on the left, who doesn't love a great big bow? I found out MUCH later, that the very same dress is an Alexis Phifer original! Don't you love it when it all comes together?

Review: I really enjoyed the collection. I would wear many, if not all of the pieces. I was particularly excited to see that Alexis channeled the youthful, feminine aesthetic that it seems she no doubt appreciates. She looked just like one (actually better than most) of her models! I appreciated the fact that she didn't do too much. She didn't try to do coutoure, but instead created very simple designs with a touch of whimsy! In this case, less definitely equalled more. I would have liked to see heavier, fuller fabric. In some cases the dresses looked a little, ummm, light (interpret that however you will!).

Left: Goodie bag (and because I know y'all are just dying to see a pic of my seat); Right: Kanye and mom sport shades, as dictated by front row etiquette books everywhere, and Alexis' cute (and oh so proud of his mommy as he told the folks on line outside) son looks on.

In addition to the amazing soundtrack, Alexis entertained the audience with a tongue in cheek touch. She created a few dresses, in collaboration with famed photographer, Mark Seliger (these dresses are on display at Henri Bendel). Each model that walked in one of his dresses, paused at the end of the runway to take a quick pic of the many photographers who busy taking pics of the models themselves. Cute!

Kanye and Alexis closed the night out (and the club down!) At Manahatta, the venue for the Honey Magazine: Ghita by Alexis Phifer After-Party.

After a monumental day of personal achievements, the happy couple sip on a celebratory toast with Castries Cocktail GHITAtini, made specifically for the host herself! Castries was on hand, compliments of Pop Event Planning!

* P.S.: Days later, as I attended a going-away party--same party which was mentioned in this post re Mal Sirrah-- I saw Nigel! At least I think it was Nigel. Well, we were in very close proximity, in someone's living room, but I am only 90% sure that it was Nigel-- even though the Nigel look-a-like was with Miss Jay. Why did I NOT know if it was indeed Nigel? Because I was busy NOT looking in his direction, for fear that he would recognize me as the girl from the show who was busy taking his picture when he made it clear that he was uninterested in having his picture taken! Sorry Nigel, but surely you understand?!

P.P.S.: I'm a little annoyed that I was too busy to post closer to the date of the event. I would have been able to more fully convey my enthusiasm and excitement! I was geeked that I was attending a real life fashion show and not watching it on t.v. I was even more excited to get a seat in the second row! The show took place way back on September 11, the same date of release of Kanye's latest album, "Graduation".

JEDDA KAHN AND ZONKIRI @ TE CASAN

Work, work, work...excuses, excuses, excuses! I've been under water, but the deal's finally signed, so back to blogging! It doesn't look like I'll get to post much about Fashion Week, but check out The Fashion Bomb for Claire's coverage of BCBG, Nicole Miller & LAMB by Gwen Stefani, and Heatherette. I do reserve the right to revisit the shows at a later date.
Anyway, check out the Fashion Week event below, held at TéCasan, a chic Soho shoe boutique. I, along with fab friend, Aliya, went to view some pieces from Jedda-Kahn's and Zonkiri's collection. The event was hosted by FashionTribes & Papierdoll in partnership with Glam, H&M, Vitamin Water et al. I couldn't have started fashion week with a more fitting event. Check out the pics below; these emerging designers are ones to watch!

The slide show, above, contains photos of each designer (John Lee and Jedda-Kahn), followed by his dresses. Unfortunately, there were only four Zonkiri dresses on hand, but my, aren't they something? Check out the slideshow below for pics of the fashion forward crowd and more pics of shoes and accessories avilable at Té Casan!

In addition to sipping cocktails, eating (too many!) butlered hors d’Å“uvres, and mingling with fashion insiders, I somehow managed to come away with the pair of green satin shoes below (the same type of shoe was briefly mentioned in this Satin Shoes post). I can resist everything but temptation! Hurry in, they're on sale and rumor has it, the designer, Gaetano Perrone, was recently poached by Dior! Can you tell that he's also an architect?

Left: I try on, and subsequently buy Gaetano Perrone's "Diana" jewelled ballerina satin pumps in light green; Right: Aliya arrived in Fay Baldock's "Kaelyn" shoe --also available, exclusively, at Te Casan.
Fashion events are not complete unless they include the obligatory swag bag! Here's a sampling of the contents...beauty products galore!
