FASHION WEEK: SACHIN + BABI FALL 2012

Although just barely two years old and making its debut in Mercedes Benz Fashion week only yesterday, Sachin +Babi, the eponymous label of husband and wife duo Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia has already made quite the impression on the fashion elite.

According to Women's Wear Daily, yesterday Sachin +Babi "made a name for themselves by bringing a global aesthetic to the contemporary market".

While Sachin + Babi ready-to-wear is in its infancy, albeit a precocious one, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have been in the fashion industry for more than a decade.

The Bombay and New Delhi natives who are the children of artisans, drapers and designers met in New York City while attending FIT and are the creators of the Ankasa home brand. In addition, they're "responsible for much of the couture hand embroideries and unique textiles utilized by some of the industry's most esteemed fashion houses." I came to know the Sachin + Babi brand because one of my favorite pieces of clothing is from the label's early collections. My gray peplum jacket is to die for. And, while I'd like to take some credit and think that I have some intuition for these things, I have to acknowledge that Sachin + Babi are about to blow whether I realize that or not.

Their style is best described as classic-meets-contemporary, but they describe it as eclectic and elan. I love it because it's both super feminine and rock and roll.

Tibi's Spring 2012 ad campaign is not a happy accident, but the result of a deliberate effort by the brand's founder, Amy Smilovic, to unite complimentary aspects of fashion's new guard: new media. With styling by beyond-fashionable blogger Elin Kling--who has already designed a collection with H&M (launching February 3rd), and modeling by Julia Sarr-Jamois--the wunderkid editor of Wonderland UK, the campaign is a wonderful synthesis of fashion and new media.

Karmen Pedaru and Kate King bring Chloé's Spring 2012 line to life!

It's all in the lines. Look for angular, geometric prints (and lots of color, natch) this Spring. Horizontal, vertical, oblique or straight, lines are perfect for adding dimension. Chloé executes beautifully: lines upon lines in standout color renders otherwise soft and billowous forms into architectural triumphs. I'm more than a little obsessed with Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games series. I'm seriously upset that I've finished reading the trilogy and am jealous of all those people who are currently enjoying the story. The Hunger Games movie will be coming out soon though! If you've finished book one, click here to see the official trailer. How amazing would it be if Nicki Minaj was cast as a Capitol resident?! I mean, obvi, right? That would be almost as awesome as having this be Katniss' theme song.

Celebrate Thanksgiving in style! Who says you can't have your cake and look good too? Contrary to popular belief, fashion enthusiasts tend to be as passionate about indulging their other senses as they do their desire to clothe themselves in aesthetically pleasing attire. While there is no direct correlation between superior taste in fashion and a refined palate for cuisine, anecdotal evidence suggests it. I'm just sayin'.

When fashion's holy book, Vogue, shares select signature Thanksgiving recipes as provided by noted designers, you know that this signals a sea change. Check out the article here. Hot off the heels of Target's successful campaign with Italian designer Missoni, H&M unveils its highly anticipated collaboration with another major Italian brand, Versace!

The heritage collection comprises 40 pieces for women, 20 pieces for men and even includes home decor accents. Donatella dug through the crates and the result is a modern interpretation of iconic Versace classics. Naturally, this collection is rife with color and exudes unapologetic sex appeal. Sky high stilettos complement architectural dresses, the classic Greek frieze is incorporated throughout and archival Versace prints can be found on leggings, dresses, bomber jackets and jeans.

The collection will debut both online and in 300 stores on November 19th in US & Canadian stores and November 17th for all others. Donatella is also creating a pre-spring collection that will become available on January 19th to some lucky online shoppers!

Aren't these just darling? Luxury goods behemoth Hermes has crafted a primer on how to tie the perfect knot or transform a silk scarf into a pretty top and more. I came across these 2011 knotting cards recently and couldn't get enough. MISSONI + TARGET

Target's latest collaboration with Italian fashion label Missoni is ideal for the discerning consumer who is also focused on obtaining a good value. Missoni showcases its range in this collection, designing bedding and kitchenware, men's, women's and children's clothing, and even a bicycle. Each piece evinces Missoni's trademark: bold color, chevrons, zigzags and stripes.

“In the ’50s and ’60s, the Missoni brand really developed a voice that transported it out of Italy and into the United States, and that is what the aesthetic is inspired by in the campaign.” - Will Setliff, vice president for marketing at Target

With prices ranging from $3 to $600, with most pieces priced under $40, this collection really is for everyone. Missoni for Target items will become available online and in Target stores September 13 through October 22.

This 400-plus collection is Target's largest designer collaboration to date. Surprising given that Angela Missoni has been quoted as saying: “As Missoni, we have a big name but we are not a huge company, so there’s not much product around.”

ROBERTO CAPUCCI + PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART

Capucci referred to his fashions as a study in form.

Known as the best Italian designer and for his "vigor, imagination, and uninhibited originality", Roberto Capucci is credited as one of the founding fathers of modern Italian fashion. He was born in the 1930s, established his reputation in the '50s, and today, six decades later, is still regarded as one of the most influential innovators in the industry. Capucci's generous use of color, extravagant use of materials such as stones and plastic, and references to art and architecture (e.g., origami technique, the fluted doric column) set him apart from his contempories and earned the praise of the likes of Christian Dior. Capucci's imaginative works will soon be exhibited at Philadelphia's famed Museum of Art. The collection comprises over 80 Capucci creations including drawings, sketches, couture designs, and sculptures. It is the first such exhibit of the designer's work in the United States. Roberto Capucci: Art into Fashion, will be shown from March 16th - June 5th in the Dorrance Special Exhibition Galleries, first floor of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

OBJET D'ART: FLIGHT OF FANCY

I've searched high and low for the cape above to no avail. It originated from this blog, which is sublime by the way (I assume it's written by a man, but maybe not). On it he shares his favorite images, his favorite things, but doesn't use titles, there's hardly any text and the photos are random (or so he says). I wish I knew more about this cape (and that blog). What type of feathers are those, exactly? It's vintage, obvi, but when was it made? Who conceived of it? Should it be worn or displayed? For whom was it made?

Further to the strides they have already made in ensuring that black models are represented in greater numbers, and in connection with their efforts to enable the voice of fashion's marginalized -- and giving an audience to those voices-- Vogue Italia has done it again! The Magazine's "Black Allure" spread, which is included in the February issue, features models Arlenis Sosa, Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn and other ebony beauties.

PREVIEW: MARA HOFFMAN SWIM SPRING 2011 COLLECTION

This was all the help I needed to visualize an escape from the current weather in the Northeast. Mara Hoffman, known for her bold prints and fearless use of color has launched an African inspired Spring Swim 2011 collection!

Inspired by the Ndebele tribe from South Africa and Zimbabwe, by their house painting in particular, Ms. Hoffman incorporated etchings that are reminiscent of mud cloth and a web print that suggests batik. Never fear, if you're not feeling fashion-forward each style will be available in basic black, white or blue.

TOP OF THE CLASS

The incomparable Jigga Man once said: "you can pay for school, but you can't buy class" . . . you can, however, buy a great pair of kicks from New Balance's H710 Ivy League collection! This new line is not without controversy. While we know that the Ivies are Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, the University of Pe nnsylvania, Princeton and Brown, this collection inexplicably exclude Cornell and Yale.

Brown

Some take issue with the colors. Each sneaker's color is "inspired" by the school it represents, but, apparently, the blue on Columbia's version is not the "Columbia blue" and Princeton's beige sneaker is at odds with the official school colors.

Dartmouth

The sneakers are essentially hiking "boots", and come in both high and low top versions. Composed of premium suede and mesh, my favorite feature is the school crest, or rather New Balance's interpretation thereof. They will be sold by Japanese company, Mita and become available in February.

MILAN FASHION WEEK: VERSACE SPRING SUMMER 2011

Versace showed its Spring Summer 2011 line at Milan Fashion Week this past Friday. The show was also live-streamed via Facebook to over 200,000 fans. The collection featured bold colors and interesting cut outs; and emphasized the idea of opposites while playing with proportions. All this while retaining the sexy silhouette that has come to be recognized as a Versace signature.

The collection's pieces included fringework of varying lengths, macramé juxtaposed with rubber and shiny pvc on matte fabric. High waisted skirts contrasted with short jackets offers conservative coverage while displaying a line of flesh. According to Versace, the shoulder is the new erogenous zone and is featured prominently throughout the collection; unlike seasons past, the shoulders are softened! Prints feature the Versace Greek fret design, but it is used as a decorative device and not as a logo.

H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. - Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin

Lanvin, France's oldest couture house (founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin), will partner with H&M to launch a capsule collection this November! The collection becomes available on November 23rd, but will be revealed on November 2nd in a special preview film. Read the press release on the collaboration here. Moroccan-born, Israeli designer Alber Elbaz joined Lanvin as artistic director in 2001 and has rejuvenated the storied brand with capacious usage of ribbons, bows, pearls, raw edges, and metallic embellishments! NICHOLAS KIRKWOOD + KEITH HARING

“I watched this documentary called The Universe of Keith Haring, and though I know his style, I hadn’t seen the breadth of his work. I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing and prolific he was and how great it would be to incorporate his graphics into my designs,” Kirkwood explained. “So I ended up approaching the Keith Haring Foundation. I had to really sell them the product, but I think they’re pretty happy with the end result.” - Style.com

Recently I wrote about my somewhat fulfilled ambition to pursue more artistic endeavors. I was prompted to do so after viewing Rihanna's "Rude Boy" video which is highly referential of the works of artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. I noted that this blog is an outlet for my artistic aspirations, but, in truth, any creative talent that I may have manifests itself most profoundly through my wardrobe* and home decor. With that background, try to imagine my delight as I flipped through the September issue of Harper's Bazaar which highlighted shoes created by artiste extraordinaire, Nicholas Kirkwood, and that which are heavily influenced by Keith Haring! Genius. The collection becomes available worldwide February 2011. I would most assuredly wear the shoe top left in the pic above, but am madly in love with the peep toe on the right. MERCEDES-BENZ NEW YORK FASHION WEEK - SPRING 2011

It's coming! Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week for Spring 2011 fashions is fast approaching. Unfortunately I will not be attending any shows this year, but that won't stop me from covering. I did, however, get an invite to view Bally's Women Spring/Summer 2011 presentation in Milan for Milan Fashion Week, but, oy vey, me jetting off to Milan on such short notice is unlikely to happen. Thankfully, a few invites to Fashion's Night Out events have been trickling in! I hope to make it up to NYC to attend Assouline's event at The Plaza and the Bulgari event featuring Patti Smith. A good friend has also invited me to join her at the Ports 1961 event. Now all I have to do is get it together and hop on Amtrak. We shall see. If I don't make it to NYC, I will be sure to support Philadelphia's efforts. I attended last year's Fashion's Night Out event at the mall in King of Prussia, and while it ain't nobody's NYC, folks put forth a magnificent evening (read: lots of champagne and swag)! OBJET D'ART: SERPENTINE MIRROR

The "Stella", a silver gilded French antique made with elegantly arranged abalone shells.

I have a thing for mirrors, but my place is surprisingly bereft of them. For example, I've been living without a full-length mirror for more than a year now and will not even try to describe how I go about seeing how a complete outfit looks after getting dressed. Recently, while on a trip to Amsterdam, a good friend and I came across some spectacular mirrors being sold by a vendor during Queen's Day. We were able to convince the seller to ship to the States and voilà, I now have two mirrors in addition to the one above my bathroom sink. In any event, I still can't see a full outfit, because the mirrors are definitely not full length and I'm in love, again, with the mirror above. Isn't it great? It's sold by Made Goods, I'll be visiting this site often to ogle mirrors, chandeliers, accent furniture and other objets d' art!

Interestingly enough, while Brooks Brothers is the traditionalist relative to Levi's, it is in fact very innovative; Brooks Brothers created the button down dress shirt, the ubiquitous pink dress shirt, argyle, seersucker and even brought the first ready-to-wear suit to market.

*Fun Fact: Ralph Lauren is an alumni of Brooks Brothers (and of my high school!), where he worked as a salesman, and was given the right to use the Polo mark for his designs. Brooks Brothers still retains the trademark to the original polo button down.

GIVENCHY: FALL 2010 COUTORE COLLECTION

I wont launch into the reasons why I've been absent, this time. Instead, I'd like to focus on my return. In short, I was inspired. I visited www.thestylerookie.com, the blog run by teen phenom Tavi Gevinson (she started it when she was 11), and was motivated by her talent and fresh perspective. I was moved to write, however, when I saw these photos of Givenchy's Fall 2010 Couture collection on her page.

Riccardo Tisci outdid himself. Creating a collection inspired in part by Frida Kahlo, and drawing upon the Mexican culture's fascination with muerte, Tisci used his signatures: dégradé ostrich feathers, fringe-work and lace to romanticize the human skeleton and to mask and amplify the vulnerability of the human form. The fashion industry in general and major designers like Gucci in particular are always beleaguered by knockoffs and fakes. Speaking of which, The New York Lawyer reports that Gucci fired their chief U.S. lawyer when they realized that he is not licensed! Jonathan Moss, former in-house counsel to Gucci, since 2003, was initially placed on administrative leave when the faux pas was discovered, but is now no longer with the company. Turns out Mr. Moss is in fact a lawyer, but did not keep up with his license (by paying bar dues and attending continuing legal education (CLE) classes)--he was probably too busy representing Gucci in legal proceedings! I just sat through two days of a riveting CLE focusing on Investment Management, btw.

Ann Taylor hosted a preview event for its Fall 2010 collection at Manhattan's Ace Hotel on Thursday, March 25th. The retailer, known to be a purveyor of sensible work wear, is revamping its image by incorporating trendy separates and accessories into its repertoire. Designer Lisa Axelson, formerly Senior Vice President of Design for Club Monaco, was brought on recently to "rejuvenate the Ann Taylor brand and strengthen its fashion positioning"; new ads featuring Heidi Klum and Milla Jovovich encourages the target audience to see the brand new Ann.

Ann Taylor's new mission: "stylizing current customers and looking to attract new customers".

The preview event featured Ann Taylor models who interacted with the many publicists, buyers, and editors in attendance. Celebrities such as Rachel Bilson of the OC and Christina Hendricks of Mad Men were in attendance and singer-songwriter V.V. Brown performed for the crowd.

Rihanna's Keith Haring influenced video shoot. . .

If I could do it all over again, I would have studied art history. My 10-year college (and 5th-year law school) reunion is this May and, while I'm generally satisfied with my accomplishments since then, I realize that I have a voracious appetite for the subject, and am literally making up for lost time.

Art's a part of my life and is expressed in part through this blog in an informal fashion. I think it's high time to start incorporating more references to art and artists. . .

. . . and why not start with Rihanna; whose fashion sense, hairstyles and videos draw heavily upon the past while blazing a distinctive path towards the future?

Rihanna rocks a Keith Haring inspired Jeremy Scott jacket.

Rihanna's "Rude Boy" video is clearly influenced by videos of yore (the 80's), it is also heavily influenced by 80's neo-expressionist giant Jean-Michel Basquiat and pop (art) star Keith Haring.

Jean-Michel Basquiat, a Brooklyn born artist who took his training spray painting graffiti on trains and Manhattan buildings, is celebrated as an international art star. Basquiat's Crown is juxtaposed on an image of Rihanna above. It is also atop the head of the animated lion and is otherwise featured prominently throughout the video. "The crown is Basquiat's symbol for himself as well as a symbol of respect and admiration" for other figures represented in his work.

Keith Haring's trademark black on white style and break-dancing figures were inspired by street culture. Like Basquiat, Haring's artistic foundation was built on graffiti--expressed through the medium of the New York City subway. He used bold lines, vivid colors and achieved international fame even during his short life.

If you're anything like me, you often don't have the time (or inclination) to go to the gym . . .

Pants on the ground! Find a pair that fits.

Fret not, Time magazine online is currently featuring an article with helpful hints on how to dress your way to thin by accentuating strong features and cleverly masking the rest.

Horizontal stripes and inadequate support does not a fab beach bod make. . .

The photo essay depicts before pictures of women with typical voluptuous women issues--you know, a jiggly arm here, a muffin top there. These same women look deceptively slimmer after implementing small changes, as suggested by Charla Krupp in her book "H ow to Never Look Fat Again".

The tips in Charla's book are sure to help you unleash the supermodel within. Big or small, soft or toned, clothing always looks best on a confident body.

Round face? The same principles of Feng Shui apply. Balance rounded features with angular lines and vice versa.

Billowy blouses will hide the not-so-flattering upper arm jiggle. . .

There's a lot wrong with the before picture, and little has to do with the model herself. That denim skirt is hideous in the first instance and does nothing for her athletic legs in the second. . . A basic black pencil skirt hides a multitude of sins .

Pamella 's Fall 2010 collection is inspired by the Venice Carnivale and featured headpieces, rich jewel toned fabric and highly stylized and embellished pieces. The designer knows her audience--which included Brooke Shields, Afre Woodard and Mina Suvari--and hit pitch perfect notes with her red carpet ready gowns.

MILAN FASHION WEEK: BALLY FALL/WINTER 2010

Bally showed their Fall/Winter 2010 looks this past weekend in Milan. Designer Brian Atwood delivered--this being his last show at the helm of the brand.

WWD reports that Atwood "had a vision--Marlene Di etrich and Greta Garbo waiting on a train station platform on a foggy winter eve. He imagined them wearing outerwear. . . " While Dietrich and Garbo cloaked their unapologetic sensuality in mystery, Bally would have us cloak ours in blanket cutouts and aviators made of the finest cashmere, mink or jersey bonded lamb nappa; palazzo trousers in double-sided stretch gabardine; and silk dresses with delicate pleating and draping.

Bally's bags are, in keeping with tradition, a compelling fusion of form and function. One would think that the clean lines would be lost in the shadow of tactile leathers such as grommet covered nappa, antiqued deer, sprayed python and leopard print pony, but the richly textured hides only highlight the construction. Remember Keisha? My bff, confidant, personal stylist and StyleChile contributor? In the years since you've last seen her on this space she has had the opportunity to fuse her love of fashion and Parsons education while embarking on a career as a stylist!

Not just any stylist, but a stylist helping one of the industry's most seasoned and respected designers, the incomparable Oscar de la Renta, and celebrity designer Pamella DeVos, the woman behind the Pamella Roland Brand. Keisha worked with both as they prepared to send their collections down the runway at New York City's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week!

StyleChile: How did you land such fabulous gigs?
Keisha: I am a firm believer in Fate and Faith. Faith is when preparedness meets opportunity. I actually began to sew this seed over a year ago, but the time was not right. A good friend introduced me to one of Oscar's and Pamella's stylists and then, a year later, I was once again considered and asked to work on the show. I don't want to have my answer full of cliche's, but its true that it's not always what you know, but sometimes it's who you know.

StyleChile: What was it like working with Oscar and Pamella?
Keisha: Very different; working with them was both unique and fulfilling! Pamella's brand is only 5 years old, which in my opinion added to Pamella's approach. Her sense for luxe elegance, business and family ethic was evident not only in her pieces but in her approach to work. Her easy going attitude put everyone else at ease and made the entire production team gel. The experience at Oscar's was different, as the production was on a larger scale. Pamela used one styling team, whereas Oscar had both designers and styling team at the Atelier. Oscar had a say in each and every piece in the collection. He is very hands-on and gave creative direction at all times.

StyleChile: What did you enjoy most about this experience?
Keisha: I enjoyed working with such prestigious designers and alongside the best in the industry, while improving my trade. Full collections most times include about 52 looks--not pieces--but looks. Making all these looks cohesive, while expressing the vision of the designer is not always easy. Being in the Atelier, being a part of the creation and edits of the garments first-hand sent butterflies to my stomach and a rush of adrenaline.

StyleChile: What was the least favorite aspect of this job?
Keisha: When doing something that you love it is sometimes difficult to identify your least favorite part until the task is over and you reflect. At least that's how it was for me. My least favorite aspect was the pure physical exhaustion: sleep deprivation, swollen and achy feet, needle-pricked fingers, and back spasms from constantly moving at a fast pace. You only have time to think about and to feel your body only after the job has been completed.

StyleChile: What were your favorite pieces of each collection and why?
Keisha: I didn't have one favorite piece for the Oscar Collection, and that's because I am in love with every single piece. I really loved the Artisan prints in the collection; those pieces definitely stood out. I loved Pamella's reinvention of the asymmetrical hemline while pairing them with both heavy plaid and cheer chiffon. Both equally exquisite.

StyleChile: What do you think will be hits for this season and the next?

Keisha: I still believe that interesting leggings (with texture or print), pants that resemble leggings, and harem pants will continue to be in in this season and next. Bold prints such as the Artisan prints in Oscar's collection, and embellishments, are also the new trends. Inspiration seems to be coming from European influences (heavy minks, fur barrettes and militant overcoats). The softer side is also reflected with asymmetrical lines meant to soften and elongate a woman's legs and shoulders.

StyleChile: Any advice for up and coming stylists who would like the opportunity to style during fashion week?
Keisha: Fashion week is a lot of hard work and is just the finale to months of preparation and hard work by others. The team responsible for all the works of art we see on the runways and then later on the best style blogs, barely get to appreciate the beauty, because they are backstage in sweat and sometimes tears! This is NOT a glamorous role. We are the faces you do not see, and we get minimal, if any, downtime to "enjoy" the week because we're in the office cataloging, tailoring and editing until the wee hours of the morning. That being said, be sure you are vested in your craft for the right reasons and have a true passion for fashion before moving forward. Everything else will work itself out as everyone has their own path to travel.

In the year or two since the criticism of the fashion world's lack of color. In the wake of the triumph of new designers--evinced by the First Lady's unwavering commitm ent to young talent. The fashion world is bereft with grief as it mourns the passing of one of it's own. Alexander Mcqueen a/k/a Lee Mcqueen a/k/a l'enfant terrible was found dead in his London home today. Mcqueen was the lead designer at Givenchy for years before founding his own brand. The 40 year old designer is known for his fresh take on fashion and produced shows that inspired shock and awe, but most of all, his creations garnered respect as the world marveled at his undeniable talent and sheer creative genius. Rest in peace.

Is it not every woman's fantasy to parade around in Super Hero boots? I've long appreciated that look, but let's be honest, thigh high boots prior to their popularity today (and I'm sure there was a time before ours where they were de rigueur--aside from the 17th Century when they were popularized by men--maybe in the 70's) were always a little suggestive. That never stopped me from wearing them though. My favorite pair of thigh-high boots were acquired in a little shop off the Piazza del Duomo in Milan. They are black, flat and suede and cost only £39, but that was over five years ago. Now that over-the-knee boots have made a resurgence, you can find pairs in a multiplicity of prices with colors that run the gamut from cognac, to ruby red, to milky white, chocolate brown and basic black.

67th ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBES

The 67th annual Golden Globes Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton hotel tonight. Celebrities braved the rain to walk the red carpet!

As was expected, most, if not all, of the dresses were long, but there was such diversity of color!

Almost every hue was represented From Anna Paquin's and Jaime Pressly's embellished gold frocks to January Jones', Vera Farmiga's and Penelope Cruz's highly structured black gowns, to Christina Hendricks' and Nicole Kidman's draped nude goddess gowns, to Kate Hudson's architectural white dress. Cameron Diaz wore red in the form of a bias-cut Alexander McQueen, while Amy Poehler wore a fire engine red one shouldered gown.

Even with all of the colorful ensembles, I was most impressed with the nude dresses. As such, I thought Drew Barrymore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Chloe Sevigny and Dianna Agron wore some of the best looks of the night.

Tina Fey's dress was nice, but I'm not sure that's the most flattering look for her. Zoe Saldana's dress was, at best, vampire chic. Julia Roberts bucked the trend and wore a knee length YSL, while Ginnifer Goodwin did the same and wore a short, draped cobalt blue dress by Vionnet.

Beyonce gives me everything when it comes to performing--and she's solidifying her status as a bonafide fashionista and tasetemaker. And, Gaga, well Gaga gives me EVERYTHING in terms of fashion. It’s been a while . . .

This Summer I moved (back) to Philadelphia primarily because I accepted a new role as an associate in-house counsel at an investment company. It's now Fall and I can no longer hold on to the many excuses (moving, getting adjusted to a new job, finding an apartment, unpacking, etc.) that I used to delay blogging, working out, checking e-mail and generally fulfilling other obligations. I’ve accepted that there’s no time like the present to return to business as usual. While I was “gone” we’ve had NY Fashion Week, the launch of Gilt Fuse, the announcement of Sonia Rykiel for H&M, the release of The September Issue and Coco avant Chanel . . . all of the foregoing despite the financial crisis. Now that the equity markets are resurging (read: slight uptick, but we can be optimistic, right?) I can only imagine how many bigger and better fashion shows, movies and launches are to come!

WWD reports that House of Deréon designer Beyoncé is set to launch a new junior line inspired by and named for her on-stage alter ego, Sasha Fierce. The collection is inspired by looks created by Thierry Mugler for the singer's world tour (previously discussed here) and according to Tina Knowles, Beyoncés mother and fellow House of Deréon designer, the line is "edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce's daring and outgoing attitude." Finally! Photos of the Gossip Girl-inspired Anna Sui for Target collection are now available. The collection is organized in four distinct groups; outfits befitting Blair, Serena, Vanessa and Jenny. I don't watch the show, but plan to catch up on all of the seasons when they become available on DVD. What do you think? BETH DITTO + EVANS

Beth Ditto, lead singer of punk rock group Gossip, fashion darling, gay rights activist, feminist, champion for plus size causes and model--most notably as the cover girl for Conde Nast's Love magazine--has designed a line of 80's inspired clothing for the plus size British retailer, Evans. The fashion world has long been criticized for the dearth of high (and lo) fashions for the full figured woman. Many retailers are seeking to address this problem by creating lines geared towards youth oriented plus sizes (see Faith21 for Forever21 discussed infra). Evans, owned by the Arcadia Group, which is parent company to TopShop, was taken to task by Ditto, who demanded that she be allowed to design a line for the company and voila . . . the rest is history. Yes. You read correctly; your eyes did not deceive you. Jimmy Choo follows on the heels (pun intended) of Matthew Williamson to become the next designer to lend its name and high-end fashions to the Swedish retailer. On November 14th we will all--or at least the lucky few early risers in major markets--be able to get our hands on H&M's and Jimmy Choo's line of shoes, handbags and accessories for women. Jimmy Choo will also unveil its first clothing line, a capsule collection for women . . . and another first: men's shoes, bags and accessories! Shoes will range from $59.95 for ballet flats, $99 to $129 for boots, with one over-the knee boot priced at $299. The price of clothes will range from $69.95 to $249. Handbags will be $59.95 to $299. The catch? The line will only be carried in 10 - 12 U.S. stores and in 200 H&M stores worldwide.

Noted still-life photographer Peter Lippmann has paired with Christian Louboutin to work on the French luxury shoe designer's latest ad campaign.

"Ad campaign" seems too pedestrian a term to describe the works produced. Speaking of Objets D'Art! Louboutin's already masterful pieces were re-imagined as 18th century still life art. The Fall Winter campaign was styled by Amandine Moine; Nicolas Menu was the creative director.

One of the perks of having this blog is getting the opportunity to try amazing products, often times before they hit the market. I'm in essence, a bit of a guinea pig, but I do it all for you. Cry me a river, right? In all seriousness, I love products and was psyched to receive some more, courtesy of Cantu Shea Butter. KHAKI IS THE NEW GAP!

How apropos. Neutrals are it this season, and the Gap is right on trend. In seasons past, the retailer has paired with Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)/Vogue Fashion Fund winners to rework the classic white shirt--for which the Gap is known.

Last year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, Phillip Lim (discussed in post below), Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian and ThreeASFOUR (Philip Crangi created jewelry to accompany the collection) each created unique designs, reflective of their style, using the classic Gap white shirt as a basis. Prior to that, winners Doo-Ri Chung, Thakoon Panichgul (One of First Lady Obama's favorites) and Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte each took a turn at transforming the classic white.

This year, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepöel, were tasked with recreating another Gap classic: the Khaki. The Khaki collection features a motorcycle jacket and chinos courtesy of Alexander Wang, hats by milliner Swanepöel of Albertus Quartus and dresses and a variation on chinos by Vena Cava. Shutterbug Craig McDean photographed Arlenis Sosa, Raquel Zimmerman, Anna Jagodzinska and Coco Rocha for the ad campaign.
